WATCH: Rehabilitated critically endangered vultures released in Zululand

Rehabilitated African white-backed vultures released

THREE African white-backed vultures were on Wednesday successfully released in the Manyoni Private Game Reserve near Mkhuze.

This after undergoing rehabilitation for months at the Raptor Rescue Centre in Camperdown after being rescued from a poisoning incident last year.

This species is on the critically endangered list and Director of Wildlife Act, Chris Kelly, Raptor Rescue’s Ben Hoffman and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife animal scientist, Brent Coverdale, worked diligently to rehabilitate the birds.

The three vultures released were the last of a group of eight that were rescued. The others were released at the end of last year.

Each vulture was fitted with a GPS tracking unit and wing tag before release.
