Ulundi Municipality temporarily shuts down
Offices closed as a precaution after Covid-19 cases were reported
THE Ulundi Municipality temporarily closed its offices on Monday ‘as a precaution’ after positive Covid-19 cases were reported there.
Four hundred municipal employees and 47 councillors underwent Covid-19 testing last Friday.

Municipal Manager, Nkosenye Zulu, said most of the results were in and the municipality had taken a decision to shut its offices pending a discussion of the results with the Department of Health, and were being ‘advised on the health protocols going forward’.
Zulu did not divulge the number of positive cases confirmed, but according to a source within the municipality, many offices were found to be infected and the results of the councillors were still awaited.
Zulu said the reason for shutting down all the offices was taken to prevent further coronavirus transmissions.
‘I wish to point out that all emergency services will be operating as normal,’ Zulu said.
Meanwhile, Mthonjaneni Municipality, which was closed two weeks ago, reopened on Monday.
But Mayor Sibonginkosi Biyela said only essential workers returned to work.
‘I will be liaising with the municipal manager to determine what the regulations say about allowing workers back to work,’ he said.
Eighteen cases of Covid-19 were reported at the Mthonjaneni Municipality after employees and councillors were subjected to Covid-19 testing on 11 June.
