Brown house snake caught and released in Empangeni

The snake measured almost one metre in length and was safely removed and released

SNAKE catcher Fred Lubbe once again sprang into action last Thursday after receiving a call from concerned Old Mill Industrial Park residents in Empangeni about a snake spotted in the communal garden.

‘On arrival, I noticed that the brown house snake was trapped under a bucket, which allowed for an easy catch,’ said Lubbe.

‘According to residents, the snake had caught a bird and was attempting to constrict it. But they intervened and trapped it under the bucket.

‘This specific species is harmless, but it is worth remembering that if people spot a snake busy feeding, it is best to keep a distance and leave it alone.

Interfering can cause more harm than good,’ Lubbe said.

‘This time of the year snakes are less active and tend to lose weight, so I urge community members to leave these reptiles when they eat and call me for help.’

The snake was safely removed and released.

Lubbe can be contacted on 066 2433377 for all snake related issues.
