Richards Bay beaches open for fishing

The beaches will remain closed for all non-anglers

THE City of uMhlathuze earlier today (Thursday) confirmed that all fishing locations are now open at the beaches and other areas where recreational angling is permitted.

The beaches will remain closed to non-fishermen and the boom at the entrance to Alkantstrand is to remain in place. Anglers will be asked by the guards on duty to produce valid fishing licences.

City of uMhlathuze communications manager, Mdu Ncalane, said that law enforcement agencies, including municipal security, the by-law enforcement unit, SAPS and others would conduct patrols to ensure compliance.

‘The city would like to remind the public that beaches are still closed until such time that the regulations prohibiting beach usage are lifted at an appropriate Covid-19 level,’ said Ncalane.

‘Social distancing, wearing of face masks, hygiene and other health protocols must be adhered to at all times by those who will be permitted to fish.’
