City of uMhlathuze rates halls reopen but licensing office remains closed

Customers visiting the municipality must adhere to strict Covid-19 protocols

SERVICES at the uMhlathuze Municipality’s rates hall resumed yesterday (Wednesday).

Residents with rates-related enquiries, statement requests or payments can visit the centres at both Richards Bay and Empangeni civic centres, as well as satellite centres in the suburbs and townships.

The municipality has confirmed, however, that the traffic licensing office has not yet reopened.

While there is a possibility that the licensing department will reopen next week, the municipality is yet to confirm this.

For their own safety and that of municipal employees, the public must adhere to compulsory Covid-19 protocols, such as maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks.

Hand sanitisers, perspex partitions and information signage are all in place.

City of uMhlathuze spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane, said the city has expanded municipal services online and via telephone and social media enquiries.

‘Residents are encouraged to explore these measures as they are aimed at minimising long queues caused by social distancing regulations.

‘Customers can purchase pre-paid electricity at supermarkets as the units are the same as those purchased directly from the municipal offices.’
