He is due to appear in the same court this Friday for a formal bail application.

According to reports, the deceased woman, Lindiwe Ndawonde (29), of Esiyembeni Reserve outside KwaMsane near Mtubatuba, visited her boyfriend last Monday.

A family source, who asked not to be named, said the couple was drinking throughout the night and in the early morning on Tuesday an argument broke out.

‘Indications are that during the fight the suspect strangled her. When he realised his girlfriend was not breathing, he hired a car to take her to the KwaMsane clinic where he simply dumped her body and left,’ the family member said.

Ndawonde was declared dead at the clinic and the police were called.

uMkhanyakude cluster police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said an inquest docket was registered at KwMsane SAPS on Tuesday to investigate the circumstances which led to Ndawonde’s death.

‘On Wednesday, an autopsy examination was conducted and the result indicated that Ndawonde was murdered. The inquest docket was changed to murder.

‘The suspect was traced, arrested and charged with murder,’ said Mdletshe.
