Zululand charity pays it forward to schools

A donation of juice boxes to Floraton Primary School would be put towards the school's feeding programme

AS learners prepared to return to school this week, the ZO’s charity organisation, Do I Care Enough? (DICE), donated hundreds of boxes of juice to organisations and schools which spearhead feeding schemes.

Some of the beneficiaries included Lungelo Youth Development, Floraton Primary School, Aquadene Nursery and African Solidarity Campaign (AfriSoC).

Floraton Primary School Principal Denise Williams, said the school was grateful for the donation and it would go towards the feeding programme which provides food and refreshments to learners.

‘We have been running a feeding scheme at the school for 22 years and it has been sustained through the ongoing support of local businesses and community members,’ said Williams.

‘Our learners will be looking forward to a meal at school and we have already made preparations to ensure they are catered for.

‘Our feeding programme has thrived thanks to groceries and fresh vegetables which are received on a regular basis from local businesses, religious organisations, community groups and individual donors.’

She said the school feeds between 250 and 300 children daily, and as schools reopened this week they were preparing for 140 Grade 7 learners.

‘We have a fully fitted kitchen and members who prepare hot meals at school, while some organisations deliver ready-made meals or sandwiches on certain days,’ she said.
