Car jamming incidents on the rise in Richards Bay

'Even after motorists have armed their vehicle with the remote, they must double check that it is locked' - SAPS

CASES of car remote jamming have increased in recent weeks and motorists are being warned to ensure their vehicles are safely locked before leaving them.

Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, said several motorists have been targeted in and around parking lots at shopping centres.

No forced entries were visible.

Victims of remote jamming have lost laptops, bags, money, accessories and other valuables which were left inside the vehicles while motorists frequented the shops.

‘All incidents should be reported so that police are aware of crime hot spots and trends,’ said Ferreira.

‘In the event of suspects being caught, we also want to be able to link them to the crimes.

‘Even after motorists have armed their vehicle with the remote, they must double check that it has been locked.

‘We advise the public not to leave any belongings in their cars, even if they are just popping into a store for a few minutes.’
