Supermarket owner arrested for selling cooked chicken

This was one of a few arrests of store owners and assistants last week and over the weekend

ZULULAND police had a busy week, but are committed to continue keeping a close eye on businesses that flout the lockdown regulations.

King Cetshwayo police cluster spokesperson, Captain Mdlalose, said a number of store owners and shop assistants have been arrested last week for contravening the Disaster Management Act.

‘On Friday, the owner of a Pick n Pay store in Richards Bay was arrested for selling cooked chicken.

‘He was released on bail and will appear in court on 16 July,’ said Mdlalose.

Last month government gazetted a regulation banning the sale of cooked food during the lockdown.

Items on the list included cooked chicken, baked bread and anything that could be bought from behind a counter, such as burgers and hot dogs.
