Richards Bay sport club overcomes competition challenge during lockdown

Local sport club gets creative to keep members in competitive mode

THE Zululand Multi Sports Club in Richards Bay has come up with a creative way of keeping its members active in a competitive environment three times a week during the 21-day national lockdown period.

They created the ‘Loop de Loop Challenge’, which sees members responding on a WhatsApp group if they are up for a 2.5km run/walk, which earns them a race number.

At a specific time, athletes line up in their gardens with their Garmin watches to measures their distances, and once the all clear is given they complete the distance before posting their times of the WhatsApp group.

Then club administrators log in their times on the online system and later post the overall results.

At the end of lockdown, prizes will be presented in various categories.

The Zululand Observer wants to challenge all online readers to email us a short workout video of how they are keeping themselves active during this period.

All video clips can be emailed to sports@zob.co.za.
