Many transgressions of lockdown regulations evident in uMhlathuze

Are locals taking the lockdown seriously?

JUST three days into the national lockdown, many uMhlathuze residents have already come under fire for ignoring the rules.

A number of arrests have been made around the city, mainly at liquor outlets which were still operating during the shutdown period.

The importance of following the rules seems to be lost on many city people as more cars are seen on the roads, social distancing is not being adhered to and some non-essential staff continue to work.

Empangeni Ward 2 councillor, Christo Botha, observed domestic workers, car washers and cattle herders still operating as usual.

Many workers can be spotted on the streets waiting for their employers to pick them up.

On Saturday, cars were seen lined up in Union Street, Empangeni, while some residents continued their jogging routine.

Loud parties and braais have been reported by concerned neighbours around the city.
