Crash victim grateful for community assistance

Bala Raj, an Empangeni resident whose vehicle spun, rolled and landed about 100m from the accident scene, said he was grateful for the on-site assistance

FIVE vehicles were involved in a multi-car pile-up on the N2 near the Nyoni off-ramp on Saturday when trying to avoid cattle on the road.

The accident occurred at about 8.15pm when two cows on the highway were struck.

Five people were treated at the scene by ambulance services for mild to moderate injuries before being taken to Stanger Hospital.

Bala Raj, an Empangeni resident whose vehicle spun, rolled and landed about 100m from the accident scene, said he was grateful for the on-site assistance.

‘Many community members arrived and offered their help,’ said Raj.

‘They asked me where my wallet and cellphone were, and when I said I wasn’t sure, they went looking for them and brought them to me.’

Raj said his keys were flung from the vehicle while it was rolling and were found in nearby bushes.

‘I also want to thank the Ramkilowan family who stayed with me from the accident scene all the way to the hospital.

‘I would also like to warn motorists that they should drive slowly on this stretch of the N2 as cattle are frequently on the road.’

IPSS Medical Rescue confirmed that they transported three people to hospital, one with serious injuries, while another ambulance service transported two further people to hospital for medical treatment.
