Mtubatuba ex-boyfriend arrested for rape
The suspect is expected to make his second court appearance on Wednesday
THE KwaMsane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) arrested a 42-year-old male suspect for rape on Sunday.
uMkhanyakude cluster police spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said a 24-year-old pregnant woman was dragged into a minibus taxi by her ex-boyfriend.
‘The victim alleges she was coming from her cousin’s homestead in the Nsolweni area in KwaMsane, when she encountered her ex-boyfriend along the road.
‘She tried to avoid him, but the suspect grabbed her and dragged her into his friend’s taxi.
‘They drove to the suspect’s homestead, where he allegedly assaulted and raped her. He only released her on Monday morning.
A case of rape, kidnapping and assault was registered at KwaMsane SAPS for investigation.
The docket was transferred to the KwaMsane FCS and the arrest was made on Tuesday.
The suspect appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and was remanded in police custody for further investigation.
He is expected to again appear in court on Wednesday for a formal bail application,’ Mdletshe said.
