The King Cetshwayo district is one of the areas in KZN whose disaster management teams have been placed on high alert owing to the possibility of severe weather today (Tuesday).
The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) announced at lunch time that a warning by the South African Weather Service indicated the possibility of heavy rains across the region between midday and 11pm.
Other districts on high alert are Harry Gwala, Ugu, uMgungundlovu, Ilembe and eThekwini Metro.
The weather warning indicates a high possibility of heavy rains which could lead to localised flooding and reduced visibility.
‘We have placed our teams on alert as inclement weather conditions continue to pose a serious risk to residents in our province,’ said Cogta MEC, Sipho Hlomuka.
‘Our teams are monitoring areas that are prone to flooding and will be able to respond to emergencies.
‘We appeal to residents to exercise caution and to remain vigilant at all times.
‘We also call upon parents to ensure that pupils utilise safe routes to get to school.’
