Man nabbed with stolen vehicle and fake passport also charged with bribery

Police officers deployed at Manguzi along the KZN border acted on information received of a man travelling in a suspected stolen vehicle

A 48-year-old man is expected to appear in the KwaNgwanase Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for a formal bail application after he was arrested last Wednesday for possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to bribe police officials.

Police officers deployed at Manguzi along the KZN border acted on information received of a man travelling in a suspected stolen vehicle.

Money that was confiscated during the arrest

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said the vehicle was intercepted at Phelandaba in Manguzi.

‘Searching the vehicle police discovered that the vehicle was tampered with and that the driver’s passport was fraudulent. During the arrest the suspect offered the police officers R20 000 to avoid arrest.

‘The suspect was arrested for bribery, possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, fraud and also charged for violation of the Immigration Act. He appeared in the KwaNgwanse Magistrate’s Court last Thursday and was remanded into custody for further investigation,’ said Naicker.
