Eskom scraps load shedding for long weekend

Electricity demand is expected to reduce significantly over the weekend

AS of 11pm last night (Friday), load shedding has been terminated and the full restoration of power is expected to last the duration of the long weekend.

Eskom said the move is the result of a drop in demand, and generating units returning as scheduled.

‘The demand for electricity is expected to reduce significantly during the long weekend,’ said the embattled power utility in a statement.

‘In addition, as we continue to reduce unplanned breakdowns, load shedding is not expected from 14 to 16 December.’

Eskom said it would continue using emergency reserves to supplement capacity if necessary.

However, as the system remains vulnerable, Eskom warned consumers that load shedding could be implemented at short notice should there be a change to the system.
