The broken bottle scenario at Richards Bay’s most popular recreational areas continues unabated

Booze parties at Naval Island and Alkantstrand that stagger on through the night have left the city with no hope of parading an attractive waterfront for either residents or visitors over the festive season

NO matter how long and loud residents complain, the broken bottle scenario at Richards Bay’s most popular recreational areas continues unabated.

Booze parties at Naval Island and Alkantstrand that stagger on through the night have left the city with no hope of parading an attractive waterfront for either residents or visitors over the festive season.

‘It’s getting steadily worse as nothing is done to establish control,’ said one victim of a piece of glass that embedded itself in his foot, and whose friend had to go to hospital to get a glass shard removed.

‘Surely the city and district mayors and their councils are embarrassed by the situation?

‘There’s no way to be proud of this, especially since these are areas that in the past have been among the best holiday facilities in the country.’

To their credit, early morning cleaners and glass recyclers do manage to restore some decency before bathers arrive, but this is simply treating the symptom rather than the problem.
