Walking away from drugs

‘We are very pleased with the turnout and yet another successful walk,’ said SANCA Zululand Director Shireen Sahadev.

THE 13th annual SANCA/Eyethu Bay Watch Walk away from Drugs event was a resounding success in an atmosphere charged with excitement.
About 800 participants of all ages joined the 5km fun walk which started and ended at the Zululand Multi Sport Club in Meerensee.
A good number of schools participated, including Siphumelele Secondary School, which won the prize of two filing cabinets and a box of paper for having the most number of entries.
Lizwi High School was the runner-up school and won one filing cabinet and four boxes of paper, while third-placed Kati Primary School won a printer and three boxes of paper.
Phesheya Primary, uMhlathuze Hindu Development Committee and Aquadene Secondary School finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
‘We are very pleased with the turnout and yet another successful walk,’ said SANCA Zululand Director Shireen Sahadev.
‘The school teachers seem to be realising what a problem substance abuse is, even in our schools, and that a walk is a healthy alternative to turning to drugs and alcohol.
‘We are grateful that teachers are noticing and appreciating the event.’
