ESIKHALENI police are still trying to solve the mystery death of an unknown woman that was found lying in a forest ditch at eMabuyeni Reserve in eMpembeni outside eSikhaleni on Christmas day.
The police received a call in the early hours of 25 December informing them that residents had recovered a woman’s body in a forest, next to the KwaDube headman’s residence.
According to the police, her neck was broken and her underwear was next to her body, as well as a used condom.
The police told the Zululand Observer they believed the deceased had been sexually assaulted before she was killed; however they were waiting for the results of tests before they could confirm rape.
eSikhaleni SAPS spokesperson Lt Thembinkosi Mkhumane said his team is still investigating the matter and that no one has been linked to the murder or rape.
‘At the moment we are still waiting for the results, which might take a month to be released, before we can confirm that she was raped. We are conducting our investigation into the murder and trying to locate her family,’ said Lt Mkhumane.
