This follows a recent video circulating on social media of a patient who was found with a maggot infestation in his mouth.
‘Following adverse developments and incidents at the hospital over the past year, senior management, together with KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, visited the hospital, after which a decision was taken to redeploy the hospital’s CEO, Dr Prakash Subban.
‘Nqobile Mkhwanazi, CEO of Queen Nandi Memorial Hospital at Empangeni, will move to RK Khan temporarily as of next week Monday,’ said MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu.
Mkhwanazi and the disciplinary team will conduct an investigative diagnosis and develop a turnaround plan for the hospital.
They will look into general hospital administration, patient flows, infrastructure maintenance and infection prevention among others.
Dr Subban will move to assist with the management of St Aidan’s Hospital in Durban which provides specialised urology and renal services, among others.
‘RK Khan Hospital serves the population of Chatsworth and surrounding areas, including communities in the Inner and Outer West.
‘The facility is a referral hospital for St Mary’s Hospital and KwaDabeka Clinic and its boundaries stretch from Yellowood Park to Richmond.
‘Despite financial constraints, the Department remains committed to improving the quality of care at RK Khan Hospital as well as all other health facilities across the province,’ Simelane-Zulu said.
