WATCH: Striking truck drivers block major traffic route in Richards Bay

Scores of trucks blocked the John Ross from 9.30am to just after midday

THE John Ross Parkway at the Alton intersection in Richards Bay was this morning (Sunday) brought to a standstill by truck drivers protesting over the employment of foreign drivers.

From 9.30am about 50 truck drivers blocked the major route, affecting entry and exit to the Port of Richards Bay, and forcing motorists to use alternative routes.

Traffic Police and all SAPS services were on scene at the protest which did not turn violent.

Protesters were dispersed at about 12.30 under guidance from fully armed police officers who ensured the scene was cleared peacefully.
