Blitzbokke need to end season on a high

Building phase for Neil Powell's sevens squad

THE Blitzbokke have not had a successful HSBC World Sevens Series run thus far, only winning two legs (Vancouver and Singapore) and placing third in Cape Town.

But although there is disappointment about the below par performances after losing a number of experienced players to Super Rugby franchises, the squad has improved as the competition progressed.

Neil Powell’s men are currently occupying fourth spot on the overall log with 121 points after eight rounds.

The USA team is in top spot with 145 points, followed by Fiji on 142 points and New Zealand in third with 130 points.

With just to legs left, it is impossible for the Blitzbokke to win the series.

Coming off a one-point tournament victory over Fiji in the cup final in Singapore, the renewed confidence within the squad may still see them winning at Twickenham in London from 25-26 May and in Paris from 1-2 June.
