How do you install a sense of tradition in your home at Christmas time?

There are things you can do that will allow your family traditions to live on for years to come, through the generations

There are a number of magic ingredients that help to make Christmas magical.

Here are our favourites – what’s yours?

• Decorate your house – and yard.

• Make your own Christmas decorations and welcoming wreath.

• Write letters to Father Christmas. Help your children to write their wish lists – as long as they’ve been mostly nice this year!

• Invite an ‘Elf on the Shelf’ to live with you, and hide him somewhere new every night.

• Look at the lights. Go for a drive or a walk and look at the Christmas lights display in your neighbourhood.

• Email Christmas cards to friends and family who live out of town.

• Decorate your own gingerbread houses.

• Cut out paper snowflakes or make paper chains.

• Set up a nativity scene in your house and re-enact the story of Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus on Christmas Eve.

• Sing, or listen to, Christmas carols.
