Cash-in- transits guard robbed in Ulundi

Thugs run empty handed

ULUNDI SAPS is investigating a case of attempted robbery and robbery after a cash-in-transit guard was robbed of his service pistol by two armed suspects.

It is alleged that the guard from G4S security was robbed after collecting cash from one of the shops in Senzangakhona Shopping Mall on Monday morning.

Zululand Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said the guard had collected an undisclosed amount of cash from a liquor outlet.

‘While he was walking out to the vehicle with cash, he was accosted by two armed suspects, who pointed a gun at him and demanded the box.

‘They disarmed him, took his 9mm pistol with 10 rounds before taking the cash box before running towards the taxi rank.

‘While the suspects were running towards their gateway vehicle, the cash box activated a dye staining chemical.

‘Smoke erupted and the suspects dropped it before jumping into their white Toyota Corolla and speeding off.

‘The box was recovered still sealed and was handed over to G4S. No arrest has been made,’ said Gwala.
