Relief for Zululand bus and taxi operators

Bus and taxi operators in KZN's far north areas will now have license offices closer to home

BUS and taxi operators in KZN’s far northern regions will now have a licensing office on their doorstep, cutting out the long trips to Pietermaritzburg to renew their permits.

The good news comes as KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda, announced plans to unveil the new Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE) and Motor Licenses service offices in Mbazwana.

Previously the Public Transport Board only had central offices in Pietermaritzburg.

This effectively meant that bus and transport operators from around the province had to travel to this one office, costing much time and money.

Among the challenges caused by having one central office were delays in processing permits, and uncollected operating licenses.

‘The department deemed it fit to decentralise these services to ensure efficiency and that they are closer to operators,’ said Kaunda.

‘This process resulted in the opening of other PRE offices across the province in areas including Port Shepstone, Ladysmith and Empangeni.’

The new Mbazwana offices will service operators from uMhlabuyalingana, Jozini, Mkhuze, Ingwavuma and surrounding areas.
