Activists join to fight gender-based violence

Domestic violence awareness movement, Metamorphosis, will host former Executive Director of KZN Network on Violence Against Women, Cookie Edwards, in Richards Bay this weekend

EFFORTS to revive the network campaigning against gender-based violence in the region are in full swing.

Domestic violence awareness movement, Metamorphosis, will host former Executive Director of KZN Network on Violence Against Women, Cookie Edwards, in Richards Bay this weekend.

Having helped domestic violence victims for over 30 years, Edwards will be teaming up with local activist Michelle Michael to establish a solid network with relevant role players to ensure issues relating to gender-based violence, drug addiction, HIV/Aids, human trafficking and poverty are addressed locally.

The meeting will take place on Saturday at 2pm at the Aquadene Community Library and will bring together local non-govermental, non-profit and faith-based organisations, and all those who are already reaching out in the community to make a positive difference.

Both Edwards and Michael’s are survivors of domestic violence and activists.

Earlier this month Michael launched the start of a series of information sessions which will be held in different suburbs and communities to share information and resources on how to address issues of domestic violence, physical and drug abuse, relationships and social ills.

Michael established the Metamorphosis organisation several years ago and hosts annual conferences, workshops and speaking engagements to share her experience and provide tools to help others deal with life’s challenges.

These events provide a platform for communities to join forces, share ideas and create unity in addressing social ills in society.
