No online ID application in KZN yet

This was confirmed by Empangeni's Home Affairs Office Manager, Vusi Mjadu

IN an effort to minimise long queues for people wanting to apply for their identity documents, death or birth certificates, the Department of Home Affairs is piloting an online application process.

This was confirmed by Empangeni’s Home Affairs Office Manager, Vusi Mjadu.

He said the project was only being piloted in Johannesburg at this stage, where the department works through ABSA and Standard banks.

‘The idea is reduce the workload. People will use the two banks for online applications, but will still come to our offices for payments only.

‘If the project proves successful, it will then be rolled out to all other provinces.’

He also appealed to people who have not upgraded their green bar coded identity documents into smart cards, to do so while time allows.
