Helping graduates find a way out of unemployment

LAST week’s workshop for unemployed graduates, hosted by uThungulu Community Foundation (UCF), was hailed a great success and attracted more than 70 graduates who left the workshop feeling empowered and invigorated.

Aimed at giving graduates the opportunity to make a contribution to ways out of unemployment, the workshop provided a platform for ideas and initiatives to be shared and articulated.

‘Some unemployed graduates revealed that containers discarded and lying at Richards Bay Harbour could be donated to unemployed graduates to establish mini-workstations with Wi-Fi access, largely owned and controlled by unemployed young people,’ said UCF CEO Simphiwe Mbatha.

‘This idea could encourage young unemployed graduates to start their own innovative businesses and initiatives.’

Mbatha said, as a result of the workshop UCF was asked to arrange a follow-up seminar at which representatives from business and local municipalities can directly engage with unemployed graduates.

Participants thanked UCF for arranging the workshop and taking the time to liaise directly with unemployed graduates.

‘I am leaving this workshop fully empowered with knowledge of things I can do myself, to improve my chances for advancement in life,’ said one participant.

‘We would like to thank all workshop participants for their excellent behaviour and commitment to partnering with the foundation in a search for ways and means of assisting the unemployed,’ said Mbatha.
