International accolade for Richards Bay businessman

Zululander heads up international network of People of Indian Origin

RICHARDS Bay businessman and philanthropist, Ishwar Ramlutchman, has been elected as a Vice President of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin’s (GOPIO) international executive last week.

The organisation has numerous chapters in South Africa and around the world. It prioritises pooling financial and professional resources to benefit people of Indian origin.

Ramlutchman, who is extensively involved in humanitarian efforts and promoting peace, was elected through an electronic election process, in which 172 of the 246 international delegates from 21 countries cast their votes. He received 63.4% of the votes.

The 41-year-old Zululander joined GOPIO in 2012 as a Life Member and Zululand Chapter President before taking up the position of Africa co-ordinator since 2013.

Last year Ramlutchman hosted the GOPIO Bienniel Business Convention in Durban, which was attended by businessmen and dignitaries from around the globe.

He said that in the past elections were held at biennial conventions where only a fraction of the international delegates could participate.

‘With new technologies available, the present election was held electronically with a record participation of 93% of the international delegates.

‘India is at the threshold of accepting new technologies and business investments, and the new team has come up with a motto ‘GOPIO Means Business’.

The aim is to attract Indian diaspora entrepreneurs and businessmen to invest in India in the spheres of business, philanthropy, education, healthcare and social causes.’

Congratulatory messages have flooded in for the Zululander, welcoming his appointment and commending his service to humanity.

British politician, Lord Diljit Rana, a leading figure in the Northern Ireland Indian community, praised Ramlutchman’s peace initiatives and acknowledged his various awards, accolades and recognition received, which are a testimony to his dedication in serving the poor, needy and disadvantaged.

‘As a pillar of peace, Ishwar has inspired and motivated others to follow in his path and help those who are in need and less fortunate,’ said Rana.

‘His work in GOPIO has been outstanding with sincere efforts in opening more chapters, bonding the existing ones and bringing together various ethnic groups in South Africa.’
