More dog shooting revelations

Four dogs were shot on the day of the incident

AN investigation by the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA into the dog shooting incident in Mthonjaneni in November, revealed more horrific findings than initially reported.

According to the NSPCA a thorough investigation of the video clip which emerged on social media five days after the shooting, led to findings that four dogs had in fact been shot.

One dog was shot multiple times, another escaped wounded and two puppies were shot.

One puppy was allegedly shot while in the hands of a nine-year-old boy.

The dog that was shot multiple times was found still alive by an eShowe SPCA inspector who attended the scene as soon as the incident came to light.

The NSPCA said a witness stated there was no proof that these particular dogs had been responsible for livestock deaths.

Owing to the nature of the case, a NSPCA inspector, accompanied by an armed guard, travelled to Melmoth to open a case against the accused.

Charges were laid against the Mthonjaneni Deputy Mayor, the shooters and the owner of the dogs in terms of the Animals Protection Act No 71 of 1962.

SAPS is also investigating the matter in terms of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
