Off-duty cop nabs murder suspect in eShowe

It is alleged that the suspect opened fire, shooting four people during a wedding celebration on Wednesday

A MAN accused of killing two people and injuring two others at Makhilimba area is set to appear in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was apprehended at a hiking spot in Gingindlovu after eShowe SAPS Vispol member, Constable Thuthukani Khuzwayo, recognised him as fitting the police description of the suspect.

‘Constable Khuzwayo used his private car to chase the suspect who was reported to be proceeding to a hiking spot at Gingindlovu after committing a double murder and two attempted murders at Makhilimba,’ said KZN Police Spokesperson Nqobile Gwala.

‘The constable gave the suspect a lift and drove straight to Gingindlovu SAPS for back up.

‘The suspect was arrested and, when his bag was searched, police found clothing with blood stains.’

‘Mbhekiseni Mthethwa (53) and Sipho Mzimela (Mnguni) (40) died at the scene.

‘The two other victims were rushed to hospital, one shot in the knee and the other in the stomach.’

The suspect is being detained at eShowe SAPS on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa applauded the swift arrest.

‘It shows that police are always alert and dedicated to prevent criminal activities and arrest the perpetrators of crime.’
