CONVICTED Mthonjaneni Ward 7 Councillor Mthokozisi Mthembu will spend Christmas day behind bars.
Mthembu was found guilty of stock theft in the Piet Retief Regional Court last month and will be sentenced in February.
Piet Retief police spokesman, Sergeant Gerald Sedibe, confirmed Mthembu’s sentencing was postponed from Tuesday last week to next year.

‘He will remain in custody and spend his Christmas behind bars since his bail application was turned down,’ Sedibe said.
Mthembu was arrested at a police roadblock in December last year while transporting 11 cows stolen from a Mpumalanga farm.
Mthonjaneni Speaker Ntombikayenkosi Jiyane will write to the MEC of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, to seek advice about this matter.
Attempts to obtain comment form the ANC whip Maqeqeshe Mchunu and ANC Regional Secretary Tholi Gwala were unsuccessful.
