Ramaphosa takes his campaign to Jozini

ANC succession battle hots up

ONE of the front runners for the ANC top job, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa took his election campaign to the rural Far North Region of KZN.

Known as ‘CR17’, Ramaphosa addressed his supporters at the Ezibukweni Sportsfield in Jozini on Sunday, after visiting His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini at his Royal Palace KwaNongoma.

He donated cows to the King and asked for his blessings and in response the King wished him well in his campaign, and cautioned that Ramaphosa’s visit must not be misinterpreted.

This was Ramaphosa’s first visit to the Far North Region and, accompanied by former KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu and former KZN MEC for Education Peggy Nkonyeni, he made clear that he was ready to lead the ANC after its watershed 54th National Conference to be held in Midrand, Gauteng, which takes place from 16-20 December.

His address focused on the ideals and teachings of former ANC’s longest serving President Oliver Reginald Tambo, under the theme ‘Let Us Deepen Unity.’
