Port of Richards Bay October shipping stats

Total cargo handled in Richards Bay last month was ever so slightly down from September

BUSINESS at the Port of Richards Bay continues to remain steady, as October’s shipping statistics were very similar to those of September.

Bulk cargo handled in Richards Bay reached a total of just over 9.1-million tonnes, with 625 870 of that landing in Richards Bay and just over 8.5-million shipped from the port.

Total break bulk handled by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) in Richards Bay last month reached 140 138, while six vehicles came through the Port of Richards Bay, all of which were exports.

Ever so slightly down on September’s cargo total of 9 421 543 tonnes, October saw Richards Bay handle a total cargo of 9 329 881.

This figure is split into 631 791 tonnes landing in Richards Bay and a massive 8 640 990 tonnes shipped from our shores.

Expressed in 6m units (twenty-foot equivalent units), a grand total of 1 748 containers were handled by the Port of Richards Bay last month.

Of the 135 vessels to arrive in Richards Bay last month, seven were cargo vessels carrying a total of 147 966 tonnes, two were containers carrying a total of 38 554 tonnes, 13 were tankers, including oil, chemical and LPG tankers, carrying a total tonnage of 305 373.

The bulk of Richards Bay’s vessel arrivals, however, were the bulk cargo vessels, of which there were 112 carrying a total tonnage of 4 910 895.
