Death of community stalwart iNduna Mndaba

Madlebe Traditional Council mourns Mndaba's passing

THE Madlebe Traditional Authority is in mourning following the death of long-serving iNduna Philemon Mndaba, who passed away on Sunday after collapsing at his home in Ndabayakhe.

Speaking on behalf of the Traditional Council, Ndunankulu Bagiye Mkhize said Mndaba’s death came as a shock to both iNkosi Zenzo Zungu and the entire council.

Mkhize described Mndaba as an activist, a rural development giant and ‘the tallest tree of Madlebe Traditional Authority’.

‘We are still trying to come to terms with his untimely death. Mndaba’s passing will undoubtedly leave a big void in the council.

‘We will miss his wise counsel in resolving family disputes, his humility and business acumen. He was a strict disciplinarian, yet cheerful and was instrumental in unlocking rural development,’ Mkhize said.

At the time of his death Mndaba was the Deputy Chairperson of Madlebe Traditional Council, a taxi owner and a farmer.

He served the Madlebe Traditional Council as a council member since 1973, serving under Regent Mangenhliziyo Zungu, iNkosi Bhekizwe Zungu, iNkosi Sbongile Zungu and the current head of the traditional authority, iNkosi Zenzo Zungu.

Mndaba (78) is survived by four children and five grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at Ndabayakhe Primary School on Saturday.
