Potjie cook-off to benefit butterflies

THE eShowe Butterfly Dome is holding a potjiekos competition as a major fund-raiser.

Participants stand a chance of winning great prizes, with the winning team winning three nights for four people at

Tartaruga Maritima luxury tented accommodation in southern Mozambique.

The competition takes place at Fort Nongqayi Museum Village on Saturday, 9 September.

Teams, with a maximum of four members, will set up their stands from 11am and the cook-off starts at 11.30am.

Potjies will be judged from 2.30pm and the selling of the potjie food to the public will take place from 2.45pm.

Entry for teams are R200 per pot and besides the best pot prizes, there will also be prizes for the best side dish, best dressed team, team spirit, effort and most sales.

Each team must have a theme and dress accordingly.

All preparations must take place on the premises and no fires may be made on the museum fields, lawns or grass.

The organisers will supply containers for the selling of meals, as well as a starch (pap or rice).

No alcohol is allowed onto the premises, but a cash bar will be available.

Corporate advertising and promotional material will be allowed.The eShowe Butterfly Dome is a community-owned facility that relies entirely on funding from fund-raising efforts and ticket sales.
