Gogo’s pride at grandson’s graduation ceremony

'It has not been easy. There were many challenges along the way and I am overjoyed to finally see Musa’s dream materialise,' said Gogo MaChonco

IT was a proud moment for uMfolozi TVET College engineering student Musa Majola’s grandmother, who got to witness her first grandchild graduating earlier this month.

‘It has not been easy. There were many challenges along the way and I am overjoyed to finally see Musa’s dream materialise,’ said Gogo MaChonco.

About 260 students received their diplomas at the graduation ceremony at uMfolozi TVET College in eSikhaleni.

The students had not only completed the theoretical component of their studies but also 18 months of in-service training.

College Principal Sam Zungu acknowledged the lecturers, staff and parents for their ‘critical roles in ensuring that students achieved these accolades’.

‘As graduates I hope you will become our ambassadors, not only to the country, but also to the rest of the world. I hope you have been transformed through your time at uMfolozi TVET College, that you leave here equipped to face your own future challenges and achieve your ambitions.

‘You can have a significant impact on the lives of people in your surrounding areas. Now that you have seen the light, pass it on to others so they can also see. Be responsible citizens and deliver tangible economic, social and cultural benefits wherever you choose to work and live,’ said Zungu.

City of uMhlathuze’s Nonhlanhla Zulu encouraged students to never stop learning.

‘Education does not stop after you graduate from college, nor does it stop when you finish your diploma, degree, MBA or even your PhD. Wisdom acquisition is a moral duty, it is not just something you do to advance in life.

‘It is only through continuous learning that we can add to the vast knowledge of mankind. If we stopped learning, progress in all spheres will stop as well,’ Zulu said.
