Oosthuizen bags main prize at 21 species fishing competition
Huge turnout for annual fishing competition
DANIE Oosthuizen landed first prize and bagged R25 000 for his efforts when he was crowned 2017 champion at the annual 21 Species Fishing Competition hosted by the Meerensee Boat Club over the weekend.
The avid angler landed a Garrick which was closest to the benchmark which handed him the overall win.
Frans Nel who caught a beautiful Rubberlip ended in second spot and took home R15 000, followed by Neels Visagie in third who took home R10 000 for his Stumpnose.
Plenty of fish was caught over the weekend and a nice variety of different species.
Results
• Ladies section – 1 Debbie Hammond, 2 Kobie Gerick and 3 Debbie Hammond.
• Juniors – 1 Mykyle Vermaak, 2 Morgan Farren and 3 Jordan Erasmus.
• Species prizes – Brian Percival (Garrick), Anton van Zyl (Cave Bass), Frik van Dyk (Englishman), Dreyer Smit (Rubberlip), Phillip Nel (Scavenger), Johan Fourie (Slinger), Schalk Exley (Soldier), Julian Brits (Sand fish), Ruan Botha (Pompano), Neels Visagie (Stumpnose), David Jacobs (Queen Mackerel), Corne Kemp (Grunter), Wouter Jansen van Rensburg (Shad), Jan Haasbroek (Cuta), Piet Rall (Catface Rockcod), Wessel Germishuizen (Tuna) and Kobus Bender (Salmon).
• Most Meritorious Fish – Mussel cracker of 26kg. Boat name – Sunseeker.
• Luck draw prizes – Ludwig Erasmus, Danie Oosthuizen, Kenneth Gilmer and Piet Lourens.
• Overall winners – 1 Danie Oosthuizen (Garrick), 2 Frans Nel (Rubberlip) and 3 Neels Visagie (Stumpnose).
