uMhlathuze City roads upgrade in full swing

Last week the Empangeni leg of the road rehabilitation programme got underway to tackle some of the town’s pothole riddled roads

THE uMhlathuze Municipality is stepping up its efforts to address the dilapidated state of a number of city roads.

Last week the Empangeni leg of the road rehabilitation programme got underway to tackle some of the town’s pothole riddled roads.

City spokesman Mdu Ncalane said the three year project, launched last year, will cost the municipality approximately R30-million.

‘We have already rehabilitated a number of roads in Richards Bay and Alton.

‘We are currently concentrating on roads in Empangeni before moving on to Ngwelezana,’ said Ncalane.

The city is currently busy with Hospital Road in Empangeni and the project is expected to be completed by August.

The ZO recently reported on a number of issues concerning the shoddy state of roads.

An Empangeni cyclist, for example, was left with two cracked ribs, a fractured collarbone and abrasions to his body after he attempted to dodge a pothole in President Swart Street in April.
