Richards Bay secures vital bonus point win

Local teams fight to stay in premier league

WITH round one of the Fidelity Moor Cup rugby competition drawing to a close, Richards Bay I and II secure vital bonus point victories against South Coast Warriors at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Saturday afternoon.
The local outfit, coached by Trevor Montgomery, have had a roller-coaster ride, winning two games and suffering a handful of narrow loses in their debut premier league season.
The bottom three teams will face relegation to the First Division for the 2018 season.
Richards Bay are currently among the bottom five on the log with 16 points.
This means that Montgomery’s troops have to beat Newcastle Highlanders in Newcastle this weekend and rely on other results to swing in their favour to stay in the safe zone.
Richards Bay came out firing on Saturday, but met a South Coast side that was up for the challenge.
The visitors held a narrow 12-11 half-time lead. For Richard Bay, fullback Jimmy Enslin scored a try, with flyhalf JP Rossouw adding two penalties.
The Bay stepped up a gear in the second half and ran in 21 unanswered points.
Jaco Pretorius and Visser du Toit (2) crossed the chalk, with Pretorius slotting two conversions and Rossouw one penalty to end the game at 32-12.
In the earlier game, Richards BayII recorded a comprehensive 36-12 win over the Durban club.
