Corporate non-support could blow PSL future for locals

IN the euphoria of Thanda Royal Zulu’s annexing of the NFD trophy and gaining automatic promotion to the PSL, the harsh reality is that the club is on the brink of packing up and leaving town.

Despite welcome financial buy-in from the City of uMhlathuze and King Cetshwayo District, there is simply not enough sponsorship to run the club competitively at the elevated level of the PSL.

The accompanying reality is that only corporate and business sponsorship will keep the Amabhubesi in town – especially with a number of potential buyers reportedly already reaching for their cheque books.

The doomsday clock is ticking rapidly.

Player contracts need to be secured… and the trifling R300 000 prize for winning the NFD top spot will not stretch very far.

If there is no big business buy-in, their employees will be among the thousands of frustrated fans living in expectation of seeing Thanda taking on the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns in Richards Bay next season.
