WATCH: Richards Bay teacher hits pupil twice

School principal condemns corporal punishment incident

A VIDEO of a Richards Bay primary school teacher hitting a learner during an Afrikaans lesson has surfaced online.

The video was shot by a learner who filmed the teacher hitting a fellow learner on the head twice during her lesson at Brackenham Primary School.

The ZO has since been in contact with Brackenham Primary School Principal, Mr BK Govender who strongly condemns the incident.

Corporal punishment has been banned a long time ago and we condemn it as a school. I reiterate this with our staff on a daily basis.

‘I have seen the video and have launched an investigation into the matter.

‘I have spoken to the parent involved, the learner who accused the teacher of corporal punishment and the learner who took the video itself.’

Govender told the ZO that there has been a meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at 8am to take the necessary steps to deal with the matter moving forward.

He further noted that the matter will be reported to the department of education.
