GUTS and determination was the order of play for the Richards Bay first side when they took on a star-studded College Rovers, boosted by the inclusion of Sharks Super Rugby loose-forward Keegan Daniel in a Fidelity Security Moor Cup rugby match at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Saturday.
Although the Bay boys went down 20-41, their fourth loss in their debut season in the Premier League, they never gave up.
The visitors dominated from the kick-off and posted a 36-3 lead going into half-time, with the home side’s points coming from a drop goal from flyhalf JP Rossouw.
But some encouraging words from head coach Trevor Montgomery sparked some fire into the home side’s second half performance, which resulted in 17 points being scored.
Ruan Venter nailed one penalty and two conversions with the boot, with Rossouw and Matthew Calitz dotting down for the home side’s second half points.
Unfortunately despite winning the second half 17-7, the Bay side collected no log points, which has placed them in ninth spot of the log with six points.
The good news is that the local outfit will host tenth placed Jaguars in their next encounter, who have not recorded a win thus far.
In the earlier game played, Rovers recorded a 88-0 victory over the Richards Bay second side.
Richards Bay will take on Jaguars at the Richards Bay Rugby Club on Friday evening, with the kick-offs scheduled for 6.30pm and 8pm.
