SANCO wants Msholozi to go

'We are the voice of the voiceless'

ONE of the ANC’s alliance partner’s, South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in King Cetshwayo District has joined the chorus calling for President Jacob Zuma to leave office.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer on the sidelines of their first regional meeting held at Empangeni Council Chamber last week, SANCO’s Regional Chairperson Musa Mzimela said they supported the call for Zuma to leave.

‘From where we are, it is clear that President Zuma needs to leave office before it’s too late.

‘Yes we may not agree with the popular call of removing President Zuma through undemocratic systems, but we remained convinced that he has overstayed his welcome.

‘This call is not driven by political motives, but we care a lot about the interest of the people of this country. We believe Msholozi has not performed to our expectations.

‘It appears as if the centre which is the ANC is no longer holding. We are concerned about the two centres of power which are at play here.

‘His unilateral decision to reshuffle the cabinet without consulting the National Executive Committee of the ANC was the last straw.

‘Clearly it looks like the power has moved from the ANC to the government. He appears to be listening to government than the ANC.

‘That was the debate with former President Mbeki as well, who was not consulting the ANC when making big decisions affecting the country.

‘We had thought President Zuma learned a thing from Mbeki’s mistakes, but he is falling into the same trap,’ said Mzimela.

Mzimela was elected last month during SANCO’s Regional Conference held in Richards Bay. The other office bearers were Mdu Ntuli (Deputy Chairperson), Thembinkosi Mthembu (Secretary), Dumisani Makhathini (Deputy Secretary), Thandeka Magujwa (Treasurer)

Voice of the voiceless

Explaining their role in the community, Mzimela said they were the voice of the voiceless.

‘We stand for all the needs of our residents. Our primary mandate is to defend the residents who are affected by the decisions taken by the government at all levels. ‘These may be issues pertaining to water, electricity, housing and the municipal rates which are very high.

‘The reality is that most of our residents are unemployed, yet they need to be serviced.

‘We will engage the government on these issues, as well as looking at the quality of services delivered and the quality of distribution of resources in both urban and rural areas,’ he said.
