Illegal immigrants arrested in Richards Bay

The three were suspected to be in possession of stolen goods

THREE men were apprehended by security officials in Richards Bay on Tuesday morning on suspicion of being in possession of stolen goods.

During a routine patrol, Votella Security officers noticed the three running out of the bush near the intersection of Bullion Boulevard and Geldengracht Road.

They were carrying two boxes.

The security officers gave chase and apprehended the three men, thought to be from Mozambique.

The boxes contained DVD players and surround sound systems.

No form of identification was found on any of them.

Richards Bay SAPS later arrived and arrested the trio.

The suspects were charged with possession of housebreaking implements, but not possession of stolen goods as there were receipts for the items they had been carrying.

Charges were dropped when the docket went to court owing to insufficient evidence.

However, the trio remains in custody at the Richards Bay Police Station’s holding cells as all are foreign and in the country illegally.

They will be handed over to the Department of Immigration where deportation proceedings will be initiated.
