Nhlabane murder trial drags on

There is still no end in sight to the matter of kidnapping and murder that has been ongoing since 2015

THE trial of six men accused of kidnapping and murdering Mboniseni Welcome Manyuka Gumede in 2015, has been postponed until October.

Phumlani Mthiyani, Kingdom Mthiyani, Bongani Mbuyazi, Nhlakanipho Zikhali, Sibusiso Mbuyazi and Mthandeni Mbuyazi appeared in the Mtunzini High Court for the murder trial which began in early March.

With 23 witnesses to give testimony, by the end of the three weeks set aside for the trial it still did not reach a conclusion.

National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson confirmed the matter was adjourned to 9 October for continuation of the trial.

The men are accused of kidnapping Gumede and driving him to the home of Bongani Mbuyazi where they beat him with sticks and other weapons.

According to the indictment, the six then drove his body to a bushy area near Nhlabane beach where they buried him in a shallow grave.

Gumede was reported missing on 2 October 2015 and his body was recovered shortly thereafter.
