Waves batter Zululand coastline once again

Spectacular big waves hammer the beach

SPRING high tides coupled with strong winds saw huge waves smashing the Zululand coastline today – and the situation could continue until Tuesday.

White water soared over the South Pier and massive swells ran down the entrance channel to the harbour, providing a powerful spectacle for onlookers.

The geobags at Alkantstrand absorb the force of yet another strong wall of water

The geobag defensive wall at Alkantstrand’s main beach once again repelled waves that would otherwise have washed more sand from in front of the lifeguard house.

Waves surge over the southern breakwater and also power down the harbour channel

Only a trip up the coastline later this week will show how much more dune erosion has taken place.

Anyone wanting to see dolphins off the platform at Alkantstrand would have needed to wear oilskins on Sunday afternoon
