CAUTION: Wet road danger – truck driver killed on the N2

Banana stop ends in death

Motorists are being advised to drive with extra caution, especially on the R102 in both directions.

This follows heavy sporadic rainfall in Empangeni and other areas in Zululand.

Accidents

A truck driver was killed this afternoon after being hit by a truck on the N2 southbound.

It is reported that the driver parked his truck on the Empangeni off-ramp before crossing the highway to purchase bananas.

On his return across the highway he was hit by another truck driver.

The driver told the ZO he tried to avoid the man, but it was too late.

Meanwhile on the R102, massive puddles of water on either side of the road, as well as poor visibility owing to the heavy rains, resulted in a driver overturning his double cab after losing control.

Two passengers from the vehicle were transported to Ngewelanza Hospital for further treatment.
