UPDATE: Latest regarding tropical storm Dineo

Meet Dineo, Mozambique's expected severe tropical cyclone

THE ZO just got the latest from the South African Weather Service (SAWS) regarding tropical storm Dineo in the Mozambique Channel..

SAWS are expected to provide further information later today in the form of a press release.

SAWS forecaster Elizabeth Webster noted that Dineo will most likely make landfall in southern Mozambique late tomorrow evening.

‘Once a storm reaches moderate tropical intensity it should be named.

‘At the moment Dineo is classified as a severe tropical storm.

‘The next level would be a tropical cyclone.

‘Our predictions indicate that tomorrow Dineo will increase its intensity forming into a tropical cyclone.

‘Late tomorrow evening Dineo will develop into a severe tropical cyclone as it makes landfall over Inhambane in southern Mozambique,’ said Webster.

Zululand affected?

Webster told that ZO that Zululand will receive rain today, however that will not be attributed to Dineo.

‘You can expect rain tonight, but that is not related to the tropical storm.

‘Tomorrow it quietens down, but from Thursday evening into Friday we’re likely to see it picking up, this time a direct result of cyclone Dineo.

‘Zululand can expect up to 20-30mm of rain during this period.

‘There is a possibility that it will pick up again on Sunday, going into Monday, so your region could expect more rain then as well,’ she added.

Webster did however stress that although they understand Dineo’s movement, the predictions of how exactly it will affect SA is difficult.

Meanwhile the King Cetshwayo District Municipality Disaster Management will be on high alert and communities are urged to use the Disaster Management Comms Centre 086 1003473 to report any incidents.
