Major upgrade to media resource centre
Learners to benefit from massive resource centre upgrade
AFTER a costly and significant upgrade, the plaque was unveiled on Monday for the revamped Foskor Media Resource Centre at ZCBF Community Park.
The refurbished premises are a major enhancement on the original centre which was opened in February 2003.
This in turn was built on the back of the Edupark Resource Centre, unveiled by then ZCBF Chairperson Regina Anthony in 2001.
‘When we were asked by the ZCBF in 2001 to combine our resources we had no hesitation, knowing education would leave a legacy,’ said Foskor Group Manager: Group Corporate Affairs, Abby Ledwaba.
‘If local learners can access internet, resources and teachers, and copy study material, they can solve problems.
‘We must ensure the centre is put to optimal use and is continuously upgraded.’
Strategy
Access to learning resources, especially relating to technology, has always been a priority, according to Sarah Luthuli – Vice President: Corporate Affairs and Human Capital, who officially opened the refurbished centre.
‘It is an integral part of our strategy initiatives and regardless of the challenges of the current economic climate, we will maintain our commitment to equipping learners to cope in a post-matric environment.
‘We won’t compromise on this budget; we want to grow learners who think and can innovate,’ said Luthuli.
Umfolozi TVET College head, Sam Zungu, said with the education sector facing many challenges, there was a dire need for strong partners such as Foskor.
‘We cannot educate in isolation. Fortunately, our city enjoys massive corporate support.
‘This media centre is serving 54 schools in the region, which also have access to the Unizulu Science Centre.
‘At the same time, our TVET college has students doing internships at Foskor, so the ongoing relationship is vital,’ said Zungu.
‘This (Foskor Media Centre) with our dedicated staff is another world for our young clients,’ said Nondomiso Mbatha, who as a learner at Dover School accessed material that put her on the road to business success.
